National News:

  • Kim Janey was sworn in on March 24, 2021 as Boston’s first Woman and first Black person to serve in the role of mayor in the city’s nearly 400 year history. 
  • The city of Evanston, IL voted to distribute 10 million dollars over the next ten years to Black people in their community for “Reparations’. $400,000 is the first step in the city’s plan, with qualified recipients receiving $25,000 for housing related concerns.   • The city of Oakland, CA voted to grant low income families of color $500.00 per month for the next 18 months in March as part of a guaranteed income trial. More details can be found here.
  • March 29, 2021 marked the first day of the Derek Chauvin trial for the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, MN on May 25, 2020.

Upcoming GPBC Events/Member Information:  

  • The next National Black Caucus monthly meeting will be held on Sunday, April 18, 2021. Please stay tuned for the Zoom link, which will be sent via email and posted on Flock. 
  • The Black Agenda Committee, started by former Co-Chair and current Parliamentarian Robin Harris in February, 2021, will be held on the second Sunday of every month at 2 pm EST. Please stay tuned for updates and meeting announcements via email/and or Flock. If you would like to work with this committee, please contact the BAC Committee if you would like to work with this committee or for further information.
  • The Reparations Committee is one of the two Committees that NBC currently has in place. Please contact NBC Co-Chair Trahern Crews if you would like to work with this committee or for further information. 
  • NBC Executive Committee member James Lane will be hosting an event for Honesty Day on April 30,2021. Info can be found at the following link.

More Amazing Black Caucus Member Work:

GP National Black Caucus members have been doing some amazing work over years and months. March, 2021 was no exception! Here are a few examples of the work and media outreach that occurred during the month of March: 

  • Green Party of Florida Co-Chair, current NBC Parliamentarian and former NBC Co-Chair Robin Harris received the NOW award for her work in Civil Disobedience in February, 2021. Her bio was read by Monica James on the March 28 event listed below. Congratulations, to Robin for her many years of dedication to social justice and equality for all! 
  • Members of the NBC held a livestream called “Green Party of the United States Black Caucus Celebrating Blackness for Women’s History Month”. If you missed it, the stream can be found here.
  • NBC Executive Committee member and National Women’s Caucus Spokesperson Monica James was tapped in March to speak at the upcoming Benjamin V. Peace Conference: Building a Beloved Community by the Muncie, IN MLK Dream Team. We look forward to sharing her experience and or any links in a future edition if one becomes available.
  • NBC Executive Committee member and Delegate James Lane held a livestream as part of his ongoing examination of Health Care matters in the Black Community. A copy of his program can be found here. For our members that are using our listserv channels on Flock, his suggested amendments to the GPUS Health Care Plank can be found posted there for discussion.
